I looked up at the house, a strange gothic mansion once owned by rich diplomats, now left to rot in solitaire, every prospect owner long scared away by myths and town tales. So the yellow paint, once bright as a summer’s afternoon, was faded and peeling, showing scarred wood underneath. The shutters were hanging from the long-broken windows, and part of the roof had collapsed in on its self, completing the foreboding scene. In fact, the only part of the house that wasn’t faded, was the blood-red door.

"How about we do this tomorrow?" I asked, my friend, Josh, suppressing a shiver.

He held out his hand. "Pay up, then." You see, we had made a deal. We both had to stay in the house. The first to leave had to pay up. Something inside me told me this was not going to end well…

Josh started to go up to the house. I followed him. It was locked.

"Oh well I guess we can’t do it tod—“

Josh gave me a look that made me shut up.

"There is probably a back door."

I groaned. We walked to around the house and found the back door. It was locked. "Ok well we can go now I guess." I said, relieved.

Josh sighed, "I guess so."

We had started to walk away when we heard the faintest ‘Click’.

Josh gasped excitedly, "Let’s go!"

"Are you serious?" I asked.

"Yes."

I sighed. "Ok, fine, let’s go."

As Josh opened the door there was a loud creak.

We walked inside and the door slammed close. We were plunged into darkness. Someone screamed and something groped at my chest. And I turned a ran back to the door. Luckily it was unlocked and I ran out. I found myself running into the room I was just in.

I yelped in surprise. Then, a door opened, filling the room with candle light. Before I could look around to see if Josh was inside the room, a scent that smelled like brownies filled the room. Dazed, I walked over to the door. I stepped in something warm and squishy. I was almost going to look down when an even stronger scent took all my attention. I started to walk to the door again. Something started to pull against my chest again.

That snapped me out of the trance I was in. I smacked away whatever was pulling on my chest, and turned around. I found out what the squishy think was. I almost threw up. Josh was sprawled out on the floor with a gaping hole in his chest. I looked at my foot and it was covered in his blood.

I looked around the room and saw a door opposite to the one with light. I ran towards it and ripped the door open. There was a long hallway that looked way too big for the house. I dashed down it. After a few moments I looked back and saw the door I just came out of right behind me.

I decided it was a hopeless to keep going down the hall. I hurried to back to the door. I felt something hit against me, and I stumbled and hit the ground. My eyes were seeing double. I shook my head and got up. I jumped over Josh’s lifeless body. I looked around. The door that had opened before was still there. I ran over to it and got through the door frame. My feet left solid ground and I was falling.

It’s a little cliche, but don’t let that discourage you. If I were you, I’d finish the story, revise it, and then see what you think
