The Haunted By: Weston Hall

I looked up at the house, a strange gothic house once owned by a poor old woman and man, now left to rot in solitaire, every prospect owner long scared away by myths and town tales. The yellow paint, once bright as a summer’s afternoon, was faded and peeling, showing scarred wood underneath. The shutters were hanging from the long-broken windows, and part of the roof had collapsed in on its self, completing the foreboding scene. In fact, the only part of the house that wasn’t faded was the blood-red door.

I always wondered why no one ever demolished it. When I looked inside to all the attempts to destroy it I found that in 1944 some workers tried taking it down, but every time they tried to take it down something happened to the equipment.

"How about we do this tomorrow?" I asked, my friend, Josh, suppressing a shiver.

He held out his hand. "Pay up, then." You see, we had made a deal. We both had to stay in the house. The first to leave had to pay up. Something inside me told me this was not going to end well…

Josh started to go up to the house. I followed him. We checked the door. It was locked.

"Oh well I guess we can’t do it tod—“

Josh gave me a look that made me shut up.

"There’s probably a back door."

I groaned. We walked to around the house and found the back door. It was locked. "Ok well we can go now I guess." I said, relieved.

Josh sighed, "I guess so."

We had started to walk away when we heard the faintest ‘Click’.

Josh gasped excitedly, "Let’s go!"

"Are you serious?" I asked.

"Yes."

I sighed. "Ok, fine, let’s go."

As Josh opened the door there was a loud creak. I clicked on my flashlight. There was a long table with half-melted candles in the candle holders. There was a chandelier above the table draped with cobwebs. Portraits of old monarchies covered the old, worn walls

We walked inside and the door slammed close. My flashlight went out. We were plunged into darkness. I clicked on my light on it came on but without shedding its light on anything. Someone screamed and something dug at my chest. I turned and booked it to the direction I thought the door was in. Suspiciously, it was unlocked I didn’t have time to speculate it, so I ran out the door. I felt no breeze of fresh air.

I gasped in surprise as a door opened, filling the room with candle light, revealing that I was in the same room I had been in before. Before I could look around to see if Josh was still inside the room, a pleasant aroma of brownies filled the room. Dazed by the scent, I walked over to the door. I stumbled on something warm and squishy. I was almost going to look down when the scent grew stronger so I couldn’t put my concentration except for it. I got up and resumed my walk to the door again. Something started to dig into my chest again.

That snapped me out of the trance I was in. I smacked away whatever it was. But as I touched the strange force my hand froze in a paralysis. When I pulled my hand away my hand still didn’t get any feeling back. I turned around to find what I had tripped over. I found out what the squishy thing was. I almost threw up, but I kept my dinner in. Josh was sprawled out on the floor with a gaping hole in his chest. He was getting pulled towards me by something. I looked at my front and it was covered in his blood.

I looked around the room and saw a door opposite to the one with the aroma. I ran towards it and ripped the door open. There was a long hallway that looked far too big for the house I was in. I dashed down it. After a few moments of seeing the same pictures on the wall I looked back and saw the door I just came out of a few feet behind me. It was a hopeless to keep going down the hall.

I hurried back to the door. Something hit against my shoulder, sending the same paralysis sensation that was in that same hand. I stumbled and fell to the ground. My eyes were seeing double. I shook my head and got up. I ran over to the door and opened it. I ran across the room and jumped over Josh’s lifeless body still being pulled slowly. I looked around. There was a door that was opposite to me. I ran over to it and got through its frame. My feet left solid ground and I was falling.

My back hit something cold but it still had broken my fall. I clicked on my flashlight again and looked around. I was in a cellar not a normal cellar either it was as big as my school, bodies were everywhere, collected over the years. I felt something jerk under me. I jumped up and started running. I was debating if I should look around. I decided yes.

When I looked around I saw Josh’s body getting up along with others. At first I thought that he was still alive and then I saw that his eyes were glowing with white light. A strange mist was coming from the bodies as they got up.

Th
The ghost things must not move very fast when they are not in a host body, I thought to myself.

I realized that the bodies I was standing on were trying to grab my feet. I kicked them away. I started to run again and dodge the hands as much as I could. I tripped over something that I couldn’t see. I hit the ground with a loud Thump! And my whole right foot lost feeling. I started crawling away from the direction of the bodies. I had dropped my flashlight so I couldn’t see anything.

I felt the wall, and I got up to lean against it. I walked along the wall feeling for a door or something. There wasn’t anything on the wall. I started to scramble to anywhere but where I was. I only had one arm and one leg. The glowing eyes were getting closer. I started getting frantic and started hopping faster. I felt a hole with my good foot. I looked at the oncoming glowing eyes. They were like twenty meters away. I jumped. I was falling and hit the floor with a crack! My leg had
broken. Luckily it was only the leg with the paralyzed foot.

“OW!” I screamed my leg felt like it was full of acid and led.

I clenched my teeth and looked around. I saw silhouettes of moth-eaten couches and an armchair, anything else was shrouded in darkness. I crawled behind the couch, and heard the thump! of the possessed bodies. With the light of the eyes I could look over the couch and around the room. Although I had fell from a cellar underground there were windows with the scene of the street.

I looked around and saw a door. If I could get past the undead I could get to the door and to the outside world, or just another room. But, there had to be a way out of here, there just had to. I waited until a path to the door was made and then remembered my leg. I would never make it crawling. I would have to make it when they left the room searching for me.

I looked at the space between the ground and the bottom of the couch I would be able to fit easily. I squeez
I squeezed into the space and kept still. I looked at the feet and saw that they were not even touching the floor. They were floating about a centimeter off the ground. I saw the feet floating away into the next room.

I got out of the space and crawled fast but quietly to the door. I touched the door knob and my good hand was then paralyzed. I got my bad arm, put it on the door knob, got my bad wrist on it and turned it. Fresh air came into the room. I sensed something looking at me. I didn’t look back.

I scooted my butt over the threshold and was outside. The being behind me started coming at me but a car came by and it shunted back. I took this advantage to scoot down the porch stairs. I couldn’t wait so I used my undamaged arm to stand. I hopped to the closest house I could find.

When I knocked I fell to the ground. The door opened to the scream of a women’s voice. And that was when I fell into unconsciousness. When I woke up I found myself in a hospital bed.
My foot was in a cast and my hands were feeling better.
I saw a nice looking doctor with a clipboard in her hand. “Can I have a notebook and a pen?” I asked, devising a plan.

The doctor looked at me quizzically. “Why?”

“Uh, I want to write something.”

“Well ok,” She said, smiling.

Now, I sit in this hosptal bed writing my story, knowing that the bodies will come. I hear a scream outside of my room I only have a few seconds so be warned of this story. Goodbye.

The End

How was it? Be Harsh.
