We are remodling soon and I need some help with primitive country exterior accent ideas. We are ading on a large addition with a front country porch as a focal point. Buliding in out cuttent fron porch into a sunroom. I would like to have hubby make ‘country shutters’ out of wood with stars cut in them. The colors I am picking is a light primitive greem, white trim with burgandy shutters. How about window boxes? Are they a thing of the past? What other touches can I give to my home to give it that country touched home? Thanks ya all.

I like the primitive decorations as well. The window boxes would be a nice touch. Maybe you could paint them out and then sand them along the edges and a little along the front to look older and more weathered. You can use an old washtub for a small flower bed. Old birdhouses clustered together on a narrow weathered workbench would look nice. Stencil or hand paint a pattern along the edge of the sunroom floor and down the stairs if you have them. Old farm implements like pitchforks, rakes, shovels can be set alongside the walls. I think the colors you are talking about are more country than primitive.Primitive colors to me are mustards, barn red, and sage green. The stars on the shutters will look nice so gather more stars.. like rusty ones or ones made out of scrap trim wood and hang them on the walls. Put the things in it that make you smile and they will help make anyone who visits very welcome. Good luck with this!
I live in Louisiana, heart of hurricane weather and the season has just begun, so I want to purchase some hurricane shutters, so i will not have to go the agony of getting wood boards, then having someone put them up etc. I have double paned windows, which are expensive to replace, I called home depot, but the guy told me he talk to me about "their home program, which sounds like opening a credit account(which I can not do) and paying on it monthly. I just want shutters that can be closed during bad weather myself, and that does not cost into the thousands. I have only six small 4 small windows and 2 larger ones on the home. Thanks guys.
I doubt you will find ‘low cost’ and ‘functional’ in the same bid. You may find someone local to do the work but I would expect to pay about $400 per small window, with the larger ones costing more. They would have to be custom sized and fitted to each opening. Then hardware would need to be installed for them to function. Painting would probably be extra.
The mini-blinds in our house are pretty worn and need to be replaced. We’re going to replace them with 2" Bali Faux Wood blinds. The new blinds, like the old, will be an inside mount. Our walls are an antique white/cream color. The window trim is bright/pure white. The windows are also bright/pure white. The exterior siding of the house is a cream color vinyl, with blue shutters.
The current mini-blind color matches the color of our interior walls. What a local box store has in stock matches the color of our current blinds and interior walls. To get a bright/pure white, we’d need to special order the blinds at almost double the cost of what’s in stock.
The bright/pure white trim in the house is very noticeable. I don’t want new blinds to be the focal point of every room. Can I get away with blinds that match the color of the interior walls (antique white/cream) or should I pay the extra to match the blinds to the color of the trim?
I would use the antique white for the blinds, because if you have that bright white for the trim AND the blinds the white will be absolutely glaring !
