well, i don’t know about 3m stuff. but i know that you can call a company to come in and put a window lamanent on that prevents the glass from shattering. the window will break, but will still stay in place.(great against burglars)
however, no lamanent will out perform a solid barier.
i think that you can get those steel rollout shuters that are like, indestructable. they are like those doors that roll down from the window things for snack bars and stores at malls.
A funnel cloud took off one of my decorative
plastic shutters, which I have on either
side of my windows, around the perimeter
of my home. It was attached with some
of those easyloc fasteners. The force of
the winds, ripped the tops off of them, and
left the “screw” part of the easylocs inside
of the house (vinyl siding). How do I get
those broken pieces out of the vinyl siding
so I can refasten the shutters with new easylocs.
There is no leverage space to get in any type
of tweezers. Plus there is a lot of resistence
because of the way the easylocs are made.
I thought of using a real thin drill bit and
go into the fastener and then trying to pull
the mout that way, but they are only about a
quarter inch wide. Oy vey. Help!
i have made repairs on similar situations with those clips. if they aren’t pushed into the studs in the wall, i just pushed them through into the wall with a nail punch(set). if they are into a stud, you will probably have to drill them out, but be careful doing it, the correct size hole in the siding is what holds the shutters on. try drilling a pilot hole in the fastener first so that when you use a larger drill bit you don’t enlarge the hole. another option would be to buy screws for shutter installations, they have a pan head, and paint them to match the shutters, then install right into the hole. the screws will turn into the broken fastener and still grip but i would try to push the broken fastener below the surface of your vinyl siding first. i did this on a job before, but the shutters were black, so this was an easy color match. to find these type screws, check either one of the home centers, or a siding supply house. you might luck out and be able to get the correct color even. good luck, hope this helps.
